Road Maintenance Utility Detection | Sicon Customer Story
The challenging task of maintaining roads across much of the South Island is the responsibility of the dedicated team at Sicon. In order to deliver their road maintenance contracts, they have embraced construction technology including utility detection and mapping software. Accurate utility detection is a key element in working effectively and safely when you have thousands of kilometres of road to maintain and repair.
“Safety of our staff is always our number one priority. Our team uses cable locators and software to map underground utilities and plan the project before the digger even comes onsite.” Louis Roach – Health & Safety Advisor, Sicon Ltd
Sicon are using the EZiCAT i750 cable locator with GPS capability to create their own plans of roads which they can in turn supply to the local councils. When the site is revisited at a later date the original plans can be referenced to show the location of underground cables. This delivers significant efficiencies as it limits the amount of rework that needs to be done.
Data Transfer & Analysis
The EZiCAT 750i data is transferred to the office computer and into LOGiCAT VU free software for mapping in Google Maps, data analysis and reporting. This provides a data trail and record on file for when and how the cable locator was used and is compatible with GIS & BIM formats.
“The functionality of the LOGiCAT software is really good, information can be sent via bluetooth to phone, tablet & PC and backed-up on the cloud”. Louis Roach – Health & Safety Advisor, Sicon Ltd
