Red or Green Laser Beam Technology?
One of the first decisions when buying any construction laser equipment these days is whether your equipment needs to have a red or green beam laser.
The answer usually depends on your construction requirements, intended use and budget, it’s important to note that there is no difference in the equipment accuracy between both colours though, so that is not a consideration.
Green Beam Laser Technology
The advantage of a green laser beam is that it appears much brighter to the human eye, sometimes up to 4X brighter than a traditional red beam. Because it is easier for the human eye to detect, a green beam can naturally be seen over a longer distance. This means when using green beam laser technology indoors, a laser detector is usually not required.
When working outdoors, the green laser beam shows up particularly well on the green-tinted finish of the tanalised timber commonly used for exterior construction in NZ.
Red Beam Laser Technology
Red beam laser levels have been around longer and are traditionally used in both indoor and outdoor environments. A red laser beam is more readily visible against the pink ‘boric’ finish of interior framing timber.
In really full sunlight, the reality is that neither a red beam nor a green beam can easily be seen over longer distances and a detector/remote is needed.
